Celebrant

Meet Jen Compton, Civil Celebrant

Hi there and welcome! Let me share some of my life story to see if you think I may be a good fit for you and the ceremony you have in mind. I’ve been married to my Spanish husband, José Luis, since 1994. Both of our boys were born in Salamanca, Spain, and we returned to Brisbane in 2003 when they were seven and eleven years of age. We’ve lived in the beautiful leafy suburb of The Gap ever since. I’ve been a primary school teacher for nearly thirty years, and I am the author of Life’s a Mango. I’m passionate about connecting positively with others and keeping the mind-body relationship balanced and healthy. I do this so that I can truly be that change I wish to see in the world. I believe that when we do things we love, we make ourselves and others happy. I love to write poetry about real-life situations and write blogs on my website about things that touch me. I get delight from posting on Instagram at #lifesamango. I also enjoy going for long walks, swimming and meditating.

I became a celebrant because I love composing and delivering ceremonies which resonate with people. I am a strong believer in the power of rituals and the way they make us feel. Whatever special occasion you are planning, whether it’s a wedding, a commitment, a naming ceremony or a funeral, if you are looking for an optimistic, communicative celebrant with a passion for her job, a wish to please as well as high attention to detail then I may be the one for you!

Please feel free to either call me or send me an email to chat to me about the type of ceremony you are after. I’m here to help.

Wedding Ceremony

Every couple is unique with different beliefs and wishes.  My job is to support you in making your wishes into a beautiful wedding ceremony.  With my experience and resources (rituals, poems, vows, and declarations) I can help you to turn your dream into a reality. As a professional Marriage Celebrant, I have been appointed by the Department of the Attorney-General to solemnise marriages in Australia.  I look after all the legal requirements of your marriage ceremony. I adhere to the Code of Practice set by the Attorney-General.

I joyfully embrace the 2017 changes in the marriage act to reflect that two people in love, regardless of their gender, can now legally marry. As your marriage celebrant, I take care of all of the details of your wedding ceremony to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible on the day. This means that you can experience the ceremony you’ve dreamt of.

Naming Ceremony

A Naming Ceremony is a lovely way to formally welcome a child or children into your family.  Whilst respecting your beliefs and wishes, I can provide you with samples of readings, poems and suitable rituals. Together we can plan a special ceremony that is guaranteed to delight.

Funeral Parlour, Graveside and Scattering of the Ashes

During your time of grief, it would an honour to listen to you as you tell me about your loved one’s life. Whilst respecting your wishes, I can help you plan and create a funeral or memorial service that is both memorable, celebratory and a tribute to your loved one who has passed.
